During the Christmas season of 2009, I was having a problem understanding what Christmas was about. There were so many parties and eating, matching gifts with relatives and friends, new clothes, etc. Spending so much on things you need so little. Don't forget anybody! After all, you don't want them to forget you. "What did you get for Christmas this year?"...
I asked myself, "Does this attitude really honor the birth of the Savior of the world?"
Then I watched a television program entitled CNN Heroes, "The Angel of Brooklyn". It was the true story of a bus driver who drove by men standing outside a Home Depot store one night after work. He asked them what they were doing. The men said that they were waiting to see if someone would offer them work. They said if they didn't get some work they couldn't eat. He made food for them every night after that. He's done this for years. I thought that this is what Christmas is really about; to love and help my fellow man when he can't give anything back in return.
This became my birthday gift to my Lord. I spent my Christmas vacation looking for and feeding the homeless people near my home in Watts, south central Los Angeles. After my vacation I thought I was done. But the Lord reminded me that my brothers and sisters are still hungry. They're still cold, wet, sick, depressed and lonely.
They are rejected by society but God loves them and so do I.
I can't quit now. Jesus never quit on me.
Who We Are
The Living Bread Co. has been recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a
501(c) (3) non-profit religious charity
as of August, 2012. We have been preparing and distributing food, clothing, blankets and bedding since December 2009. We do this in accordance with God's commandment to love one another as He loves us. This work of love for our fellow man has the overriding goal of escorting people to an initial or recommitted relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. Our stated goal is to develop a community of faith in
Jesus Christ.
What We Do
With this goal in mind, we distribute biblical teachings to our brothers and sisters to feed their souls as we also distribute food to nourish their bodies. Jesus Christ, our role model, did this in His ministry. He was the Living Bread for the people's souls, but He also fed their physical bodies.
In the book of Matthew, Chapter 25, Jesus Christ describes his view on this type of ministry...
31"When the Son of man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory.
32All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another as a shepherd divides his
sheep from the goats
33 And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left.
34Then the King will say to those on His right hand, 'Come, you blessed of My Father inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
35
for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in;
36
I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.'
37
"Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink?
38 When did we see You
a stranger and take You
in, or naked and clothe You?
39 Or when did we see you sick, or in prison, and come to You?'
40 And the King will answer and say to them, 'Assuredly, I say to you, in as much as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it
to Me."
